Summary: The Senior Paralegal for Intellectual Property will interface with supported business units in accordance with his/her responsibilities and support in-house counsel in the management of CVS and AETNA’s trademark, copyright, domain name and patent portfolios. This position will interact with all levels of management within the company, as well as with outside professionals. Candidate must be able to work in a team environment and be open to working across multiple areas of law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Conduct and analyze U.S. and international product clearance screenings to determine availability of proposed trademarks, taglines, product names, and other consumer facing content.
* Communicate with internal clients regarding proper use of Intellectual Property in marketing materials and placement on products.
* Review packaging, point-of-sale, digital content and marketing materials to provide intellectual property clearance and confirm compliance with applicable laws and regulations
* Conduct preliminary domestic and international trademark searches and summarize search
results using Corsearch.
* Partner with product design, marketing and merchandising teams to enhance identification and protection of intellectual property and innovations, including new trademarks, copyrightable material and patentable technology and designs.
* Collaborate with Legal Team members in preparation and support of global trademark and opposition filings; work with business unit to obtain product samples and other evidence in support.
* Assist with US and foreign Intellectual Property litigation and office proceedings, including collection and review of evidence of use, documents and other materials.
* Assist with preliminary and online investigations into potential trademark infringements
* Assist with drafting legal documents, including cease and desist letters, talent releases, NDAs, venue, and basic vendor agreements and related amendments, creating records of such agreements and ensuring necessary approvals and execution.
* Organize, maintain and manage trademark docket and database. Prepare and assist with filing responses to office actions, Statements of Use, Extensions of Time and 8 & 15 affidavits and collection of evidence in support.
* Assist with the development of reports and presentations with regards to the patent, trademark and copyright portfolios.
* Review trademark watch notices and present concerns to Manager for further action.
* Work with all areas of the business to ensure compliance with branding policies.
* Coordinate execution of all IP-related documents by company officers and inventors.
* Manage contract templates and guideline documents; supporting the development of training materials and procedures.
* Perform other miscellaneous functions of a paralegal, including handling special projects and conducting legal research.

Required Qualifications
* 8+ years of experience in-house or law firm focusing on intellectual property and marketing

Preferred Qualifications
* Knowledge and understanding of issues and procedures associated with Intellectual Property
* Willingness to work as part of a team and ability to work independently
* Strong project management abilities and organizational skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive and confidential material
* Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities

* B.A. or B.S. degree, plus at least three years’ paralegal experience required, with a preference for experience in a corporate legal department handling NDAs and contracts.
* Experience with IP docketing systems preferred
* Paralegal degree/certificate preferred
