Job Description
We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Wetland Scientist/Soil Scientist in the Capital Permitting and Natural Resources Group in our Providence, RI office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a B.S. with preference of a M.S. candidate, be self-motivated, capable of extended field work, and able to follow through with assignments. Candidate must be familiar with wetland delineations and municipal, state, and federal rules and regulations to assist in project permitting and regulatory compliance. This is an entry-level professional position providing the individual an opportunity to expand their wetland resource area delineation and permitting skills.
Duties/Responsibilities
Plan, organize and co-ordinate work on multiple projects
Assist in the preparation of studies and reports
Wetland Delineations, Soil Evaluations, Wildlife Habitat Assessment and other field surveys
Field visits/inspections (regional travel may be required)
Investigate/gather information to solve problems
Qualifications
Minimum BS degree in Biology/Ecology/Soil Science/Natural Resources or related field;
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 40 hour wetland delineation training preferred;
* Experience in some or all of the following activities: wetland delineation, soil profile descriptions, wildlife habitat evaluations, wetland and stream quality assessments, wetland and stream mitigation design and monitoring, endangered species habitat assessments, and rare plant surveys;
* Knowledge of soil erosion and sediment control best management practices;
* Working knowledge of the State wetlands regulatory permitting programs in New England (MA, NH, CT, RI, VT, ME) as well as Clean Water Act Section 401/404 permitting;
* An understanding of municipal, state, and federal environmental regulations, permitting, and policy in New England is very desirable;
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
* The individual should be comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor situations in all types of weather and traveling on a regular basis to project sites located in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and the surrounding Northeastern U.S. region.
Computer skills including experience with MS Office Word/Excel;
GPS skills and GIS experience a plus;
* Ability to work well in a team environment and in a fast paced environment.
